OUTDOOR EYES PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

There is a current resurgence and rediscovery of the art of B&W photography. It is a powerful medium when used correctly and has a feel to it that color cannot replicate. I do hold color work very highly but I
am drawn to the power of the B&W medium, which not only has influence my color work but also is the very roots of my photographic journey. There are many ways to convert your digital files from color the B&W. Many are just plain clumsy. After trying many of the methods in Photoshop, I have come to rely on several Plugins which make the conversion more controlled with their excellent interfaces.

HOW TO CONDITION YOURSELF FOR HIKING

HOW DO I GET MORE CONTRAST TUTORIAL

There is no substitution for hiking when it comes to getting yourself in the best condition you can so that you will enjoy your hiking experience. Even if you exercise on a regular basis, hiking is completely different
from many of the exercises that you currently do. If you don't exercise on a regular basis, then you have to start very slowly... but you can be ready in a short period of time. Start by just taking a walk around your block for an hour each day just to get your legs used to moving and walking. Any form of exercise, even at a slow pace, will be helpful.

I hear time and time again that an image needs more contrast. I usually agree but at times there is a range of contrast you don’t want to touch as you work with bringing up the contrast in other levels, mostly
some combination of mid-tone enhancement. Dragging the other tones along can ruin things. There are several ways to do what needs to be done and preserve those end tones while you do it. One of my favorites is a simple curve in Photoshop’s Curves.

WHERE AND HOW TO LOOK FOR WILDLIFE

NATURE PROVIDES PHOTOGRAPHY OPPORTUNITIES
Text & Photographs By Pedro Guimaraes

Plants grow and wildlife reside in areas where their needs are met. The same ducks that you see during one part of the season will not be found when their flight feathers are shed. They will be found in the high
grass in the marshes to protect themselves from predators. All wildlife goes through transitions based on the time of the year and different phases of their lives. So, if you are constantly visiting the same area and you don't see that special wildlife, stop and think about the time of the year.

Nature provides. There's just something about the sound of water flowing freely in a stream or of frogs singing in the spring. The sounds of nature awaken something deep inside of us. I was on one of my hikes
when I heard frogs. I decided to slow down and head their way, but from my experience, every time I approach the body of water where they are; they disappear and get quiet. And the same thing happened, except this time I managed to see one.

HOW TO CHOOSE A GPS

HOW TO PACKAGE & SHIP PHOTOGRAPHS

GPS is short for for Global Positioning System. By use of the network of 24 satellites that constantly circle the earth, a GPS receiver calculates your location (latitude, longitude, and altitude) using information
from three or more of the GPS satellites. This allows you to know where you are (and to navigate to a destination) anywhere on earth. A GPS receiver can take your outdoor adventures further than ever, but make sure to also bring a map of the area with you. Never trust a GPS to help your navigate your entire outdoor adventure since all electrical equipment malfunctions.

I purchase 8x10 self-sealing acid free bags (100 per package), 8x10 boards (5 per package) and self-sealing cardboard mailing envelopes. I purchase the acid free pen, the acid free bags and the
boards from a local art store or you can purchase everything online. The cardboard mailing envelopes are from a local business supply store. When you have all the supplies, it is a very fast process to package and ship your photographs.

MEET THE FEATURED OUTDOOR EYES PHOTOGRAPHER - Becky Wolfe

I'm a lover of the outdoors & an adventurer. These were my first loves & bringing my camera with me as I explore helps me make permanant impressions of the places I see in a way that I can share these places with others.
Living in the southern interior of British Columbia is just a bonus! The area fuels my passions as I explore & discover & photograph this beautiful valley around me. The shadows of the Cascade Mountains beckon me to hike their peaks. The rock bluffs of Skaha challenge me to climb a little higher each visit. The crystal clear mountain lakes make me yearn for a kayak. This region is full of wildlife & vegetation. It is a outdoor enthusiast's ideal destination & a never ending supply of photographic opportunities. I will continue to explore & photograph what surrounds me closest, and share my visions & stories as I go.
