When Phil and I drove into Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday, we didn’t know which way to look. Every place we turned, the views were just spectacular!

Driving up Trail Ridge Road, we stopped at all of the pull-offs to take some more photographs. Finally I said to Phil, “Will you please take a panoramic one so I can get all of the beauty in one photograph?”

So he clicked away on his iPhone and this is what he got. Isn’t this an amazing picture of the gorgeous mountains in RMNP?

Today was just a gorgeous day in Estes Park, after the snow yesterday. Rocky Mountain National Park got some snow but most of it was at higher elevations.

As Phil and I drove out to RMNP this afternoon, Longs Peak looked almost mystical in the beautiful sky and clouds.

We stopped and took tons of photographs but I liked this one best. I took it from inside the car window on Trail Ridge Road. Pretty, isn’t it?

The views in Rocky Mountain National Park are always breath-taking!

Winter storm photos from Rocky Mountain National Park, February 3, 2012.

Early this morning we had received 16 inches of new snow at Bear Lake, elevation 9, 475 feet, and it was snowing at the rate of  1 to 2 inches an hour.   A half inch of new snow was reported this morning at the Kawuneeche Visitor Center on the west side of the park.

Park roads are snowpacked and icy and good snow tires, 4WD vehicles and slow speeds are recommended.  Temporary road closures may occur throughout this current heavy storm cycle.    We have had two reported motor vehicle accidents in the park this morning.  Fortunately, there were no injuries. It continues to snow on the east side of the park, ranging from light to heavy.

Backcountry travelers should be mindful of elevated avalanche hazard conditions and check with the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) for current forecast information.

Visitors can call the park Information Office for updated road conditions – (970) 586-1206.

We live about 20 yards away from Rocky Mountain National Park and the view up to Castle Mountain is just gorgeous! There are thousands of huge rocks that are scattered around the land. Many of these boulders are 20-30+ feet high.

I remember the first time my son came to visit a few years ago, he looked up the mountain and said, “Look at that huge bear up there!” I looked up and only saw many large rocks. To give you some perspective, the rock in the foreground on the right is about 15+ feet high.

Then I realized that the shadow cast by one of these bigger boulders indeed did look like a big black bear. Can you see it?

This little Big Horn Sheep, also called a lamb, was digging in the snow right outside of our window looking for some food. The rest of the herd of about 35-40 was nearby.

It had snowed the day before and the whole herd was down looking for some easily gotten food. They sure came to the right place! It was such fun watching him paw through the snow looking for some grass to eat.

Isn’t he just adorable??
